She freelanced as a violinist and played regularly with several orchestras including the Erie Philharmonic, and the Artpark Summer Orchestra in Lewiston NY. Further studies brought her to the Eastman School of Music in Rochester New York, where she studied with Rebecca Penneys, attaining her MM and DMA degrees in Piano Performance and Literature. Dr. Garrett subsequently held faculty appointments at the University of Central Arkansas, Pittsburg State University in Kansas, and Humboldt State University in California.
In 2006, Dr. Garrett returned to private teaching, focusing on inspiring young musicians on California’s Central Coast.
